Many newer handheld units can connect to the internet with built-in WiFi communications technology, or other, proprietary connection hardware. However, older units will require the use of a modem or a connection to a cellular phone. And while many laptops have built-in modems which are used for internet access, they still require a physical connection to a phone line, especially in areas that don’t provide any wireless internet connectivity. They can also be used in locations where the built in wireless access computer is not strong enough to make a connection.
PDA internet accessories, when attached to a cell phone, can provide continuous internet connection even when on the move, without fear of moving out of range of a WiFi hotspot. The only drawback is that these devices need to be within a cellular service area or no signal will be available.
